The premolars and molars in the back of your mouth work together to chew and grind the foods you eat. These teeth often have deep textures and recesses in the tooth enamel to make them more efficient for their appointed task.

Unfortunately, these areas can sometimes be difficult to clean when you brush your teeth. If minute bacterial deposits build up on the biting surfaces of your back teeth it could foster large cavities.

If Dr. German G. Jaquez notices a problem like this during your routine dental check, he might recommend applying dental sealants to the biting surfaces of your molars and premolars. This will create a thin, clear barrier that prevents bacteria from gaining direct access to the underlying tooth enamel.

A special ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin and fully bond the dental sealants to the underlying tooth enamel.

Dental sealants can often be applied immediately following your dental checkup to ensure the tooth enamel is completely clean of plaque and food particles. The dental sealants are very durable and can help to protect the biting surface for up to a decade.
